Quick release notes on the REQHB3 2.1 server for Desqview and hambase 3.01
REQHB3 (c) 1993 by Dean R. Madsen, KE0WO
This file contains a BRIEF overview about how to install and run
the REQHB3 Server.
Features:
- Supports county data.
- Calculates the date of birth for each call (if the info is available)
- Supports the DX QSL manager data
- Supports the Russian callbook data
- Allows the SysOp to add text to outgoing messages (ie: j-Com copyright)
- Scans the R: routing lines (if any) to find the originator's home BBS
- The program's code is compressed, saving disk space
- The server runs in a separate Desqview window.
- The server is flexible allowing use of the server on another compter (not
the BBS computer) connected to the BBS computer by a LAN.
- Since the input and output files are configurable the server might be able
to be used with other BBS programs besides FBB.
- The server is FREE!
- Support for the server will continue in the future. If you want a feature
that the server does not have, PLEASE TELL ME! I can't think of all the
features that might be desired. If you want the server to support one of
j-Com's optional additions to Ham Base (such as the old call data), tell
me how hambase outputs the additional data in its comma delimited form and
I will work on it.
------------------------Set up-----------------------------------------------
You will need to edit a configuration file for use with the server. The
default file name is REQHB3.CFG which is expected to reside in the current
current directory. You may call the file what ever you wish, just include a
parameter when you enter REQHB3 in DOS to tell the server where the config
file is and what it is called.
The first line of the config file is the Drive\path\program name of the hambase
retrieval program.
The second line is the drive\path\name of the file that messages are forwarded
to in order for the server to process them.
The third line is the drive\path\name of the file where processed messages will
be placed to be imported into the BBS.
The 4th line is the callsign of the BBS
The fifth line is the call/alias that reply messages will be originated from.
The sixth line is the number of comment lines to be added to each reply message.
All lines afer the sixth line are the text to be added to each out going reply
message (such as the j-Com copyright).
Example REQHB3.CFG:
d:\hambase\hb.exe
c:\reqhb3.in
c:\fbb\mail.in

HamBase Retrieval System v3.01 (c) 1993 j-Com
After the config file is set up one needs to add entries to the SWAPP.SYS file,
BBS.SYS, and FORWARD.SYS.
BBS.SYS:
add the entry HB as a BBS.
SWAPP.SYS:
> HB @ HB
FORWARD.SYS:
---------
A HB
B HB
F HB
P @
C C:/REQHB3.IN
---------
The C:/REQHB3.IN maybe and drive/path/filename you want as long as you make
adjustments to line two in the config file.
That should get you operational. Messages sent to HB will be forwarded to
a file for the server to process and call Hambase.
The subject line of the message may contain multiple callsigns to be looked up
with spaces or commas separating the calls.
Additional callsigns may be in the text of the message with one call per line.
-----------------------------Conclusion-------------------------------------
1. This software is freeware to the amateur community. It may not be sold.
It may be freely copied and distributed, but at no charge exceeding the
medium and shipping.
2. No warranty is expressed or implied and incidental damages resulting from
the use of this software are solely the responsibility of the user. While
the software works fine, and I am willing to give it to the amateur
community, I am not willing to assume any liabilty for it crashing your
computer or its peripherals. (It has not done that on any machine we have
run it on...this is just legal junk to prevent someone from holding me
responsible for being generous enough to give this server away as a
service to the FBB community.)
3. Feedback on desired features, bugs, etc. are encouraged.
4. I would like to thank Hasan, N0AN this server would not exist, nor
support the county data, DX data or Russian callbook data without
the encouragement and information I received from Hasan.
Good luck and 73,
Dean - KE0WO
